A client of mine asked me for some book recommendations. They’re at a transition point so the subject matter isn’t as specific as I’d normally do. But since I was coming up with a good list of reads I thought of course I should share it with you.
I do a good amount of reading and have recently started adding audiobooks to my repertoire since I’ve been trying to do more walking. I can tell I haven’t been walking enough because my current book is about to be checked back into the library.
Here are a few gems:
- Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett & Dave Evans – This is my fave recco for someone I meet with who isn’t ready to see a coach yet, they do a great job of giving you some great tools to figure out how to create a life you want, and it has a good professional slant.
- Essentialism by Greg McKeown – I frequently espouse many of the tenets of this, figuring out what’s the most important to you and focusing your time on that is critical to getting so many of us out of the more/exhaustion hamster wheel.
- Atomic Habits by James Clear – There are a few of these habit people and they’re all good but I ended up getting on his mailing list, etc. but the fact that who we are is made up of what we do, well let’s learn the science of making that what we want.
- The Productivity Project by Chris Baily – I love productivity, not because I want to (or want you to) do more, I want to do the right things and I want to be as efficient as I can with spending the right amount of time on things, this includes rest and fun and stuff.
- The Coaching Habit by Michael Bungay Stanier – Many of the leaders I work with are just starting to experience the benefits of coaching, MBS lays out basic questions that are easy to start using with team interactions to lean into the power.
- Energy Leadership by Bruce D Schneider – Energy Leadership was one of the foundational pieces of the coaching program I attended (iPEC) and this is written by the founder, understanding work dynamics and knowing how you can shift them is magic (I also do an assessment on this).
I also just finished my 2023 books post (fiction and nonfiction) and there are a few gems that I’ll add to my faves list.
What are the books that you have found the most helpful?
