One of my clients came to me because they were ready to do something new. They’d been at their company for a long time and they were ready to go elsewhere. We went through my Clarity Bootcamp (a program I do to help you figure out what you want) and they decided they wanted to stay at their current job.
Our own life is such a great resource as to what we like and what not so much. We can look at both our past and our present for great nuggets. And by knowing our values, aka what’s really important to us, we can use that information to craft our vision.
And the funny thing about a vision is that while we may sit there and say exactly what job we’d have, what company we’d work for, what’s going on with our personal lives it’s not that part that matters. What matters is what those things mean to you.
For example, if there were no limits you might say you wanted to move to Tanzania and train elephants. But what that might mean to you is you really want to have new experiences. You want to be closer to nature. You want to spend time with animals.
If those are the things that you really want then you can craft a million different ways to find that.
With my client what that meant was spending more time at work in employee resource groups and focusing on DEI initiatives. It meant working on new accounts, maybe even new business. It meant getting back into the office and making more connections.
It also meant keeping their tenure with the company. The work that they’d done and their vast knowledge base. The existing relationships and comfort level. The benefits and salary they and their family appreciated. Traveling for business. And time outside of work with their family.
They also learned that if they can’t make their current role become more of what they’re looking for that they have a clear idea of what would make them happy elsewhere.
