A lot of clients come to me and they’re focused on that next promotion. And we work through ways to get it.
But it turns out the ways that we focus are good for almost anything they want. If they want to pivot. If they want better work/life balance. Or just something different from where they’re at now.
Here are a few of the things, that can help get you what you want next:
- Your career and your life are yours to create – I see far too many people (I have ben guilty of this as well) just waiting for someone to offer them their next step, job, etc. and sometimes that can turn out ok but wouldn’t it be better if you were the one steering the ship?
- Figure out what you want – Clarity is one of the three aspects of my signature system (Clarity, Control, Calibration), it’s important, but don’t be dissuaded if you don’t know what your long-term goal looks like, or don’t see how you can get what you want, you can figure out enough to start you moving in the right direction, and from there you’ll learn more.
- Ask what it takes – If we’re talking promotion this means asking your boss what you need to do to receive a promotion, for other things there are people out there who have done pretty much anything you’re interested in doing, you’d be surprised how many people just don’t ask.
- Be on brand – Figure out what the kind of person who gets what you want does, says, looks like, and be that, I don’t mean inauthentically I just mean keeping that lens of who you are in mind.
- Make connections – People can get easily put off by this aspect of life but our relationships can completely change the way we think, what we see is possible, the information on how to do things, and our access; create and nurture relationships with people that you like and inspire you.
- Be good enough – And by this, I mean catering your level of effort to what you’re trying to accomplish, sometimes this means doing less (or none) of something, sometimes it means going the extra mile, but often an extra inch is enough to stand out, the key is ensuring you’re doing the right amount on the right things.
- Stop underestimating yourself – Open your experience to what is possible beyond what you’re doing right now, stretch into that role that you haven’t quite mastered, and give yourself credit for and be vocal about your accomplishments.
A clear path might not be in front of you. Get creative about what will meet what it is you actually want. And take the first step.
What’s a step you can take this week?
And if clarity is something you want to focus on let’s chat about my Clarity Boot Camp.
